Ultra Black

November 30, 2020 by Ikeranda Smith in black, life, relationships

There are moments + times when your family is created by difficult circumstances designed to tear you apart. They happen so suddenly that you are unable to prepare for them. You know the situations that leave the family in disarray + everyone heartbroken; frayed from unspoken truths. Often times you are left with the reality that we “just didn’t talk enough.”

This picture is a new season dedicated to loving each other more intentionally because we realize that family is everything! We refuse to be enslaved to systemic measures that manipulate us to believe that we can’t be a family. We refuse to believe the notion that once someone dies that it tears us apart. We refuse to perpetuate the historical narrative that black families don’t have each other’s back.

With that being said, this moment is a head nod to black families, a big up to cousins that refuse to buy into the narrative that we only show up for funerals, a slam dunk to everything that could possible stand in the way of black relationships of any kind. This time we are betting on us. We are betting that we are more loving that “they” portray us. This time we are really the one’s we have been waiting on. So the next time you see us in any capacity just know that we are doing things different + doing it with love!
